The images for the exhibition would be in three categories. First, a
common subject. For this I's suggest a flower arrangement with everyone
photographing the same kinds of flowers. For example, roses from white to
deep red and orange, asters from white to deep blue, a variety of foliage,
a white vase on a black cloth. Throw in an 18% gray card and a step tablet
and the images can be compared one to another to see just what each process
can do. I suggest flowers since they are widely available and the
spectators know what they are supposed to look like. In addition the
exhibit space can have samples of the flower arrangement in place for
direct examination. For the second image I suggest a portrait,
self-portraits would add interest. Again, this is a common subject for
photography and makes for meaningful comparisons across methods. The third
image would be whatever the photographer chooses to best show off the power
of the method.
It seems likely that you would need to run this through some sort of
selection jury to pick the images for exhibit. I see no reason that the
selection should be all three from one photographer or none at all but that
is for the list to work out collectively.
Of course, historical material could also be exhibited right along with the
new stuff.
I have plenty of talent available in my neighborhood to make up a jury so
that job can surely be done. You all need to decide if you want to pursue
this and what the rules should be. There is plenty of summer left for
flowers, landscapes, and outdoor work with the upcoming winter for
selection efforts.
If you want to do this think about organizing it as a traveling exhibit to
go all over to show off just what alt-photo is about.
I think you need to address the following questions.
Do you want to do this at all?
Do you want to use common images for part of this?
What are the common images?
How to select the material for inclusion?
Can sponsors be found?
