Going through old magazines with a view to making room for more
important things, I was struck by an ad for Kohler. Then I noticed
that the label says, "As I See It #1 in a series / Sheila Metzner /
'The Arrangement' / Photography/Fresson Print". The overall impression
is that of a still life although closer inspection (and reading the
text below) reveals that the metalic objects in the foreground are
parts of Kohler's Our Taboret Faucet. In the reproduction, the metal
has shiney highlights and the other object have a lovely glow. The color
ranges from brass in the metallic highlights to warm brown in the shadows.
With the current discussion of the difficulties of the Fresson
process, I am surprised that it would be used for ad work. Also, I don't
remember the name Sheila Metzner in connection with the process. Does
anyone know her work?
The "As I See It" series is apparently an ongoing one for Kohler as
the latest issue (June 1997) of Smithsonian has on its back cover #28
"Here's Looking at You" Sepia toned B/W Photography by Matthew Rolston.
I'm eager to see what else turns up as I go though the rest of my old
(and new) magazines.
