Hi David I know it can be frustrating to hear people on this list talk
about Fresson prints when most people would never have seen or in some
cases heard of them. To appreciate the process you must see an original
print scans and reproductions in books and magazines are a poor
substitute. Some years ago i was fortunate enough to hold in my sweaty
little hand an original Fresson print from the T.Herbert Jones
collection in Herbert and Lucie's living room it was indeed one of lifes
magic moments. The Fresson print given to him many tears ago by Jose
Ortiz Echague himself on the back is a diamond motif with the words
Carbondir/Fresson print. As i am sure you know the original Fresson lab
in France is still making Fresson prints and the only other person to
run a Fresson lab is Luis Nadeau in Canada who's books outline the
process if some what sketchily now theres a suprise!.But why should we
expect commercial operations to tell us how it is done.I am gratified
that an interest is again being generated in this beautiful process.Art
Chakalis,John Grocott,Dunstan Perera and Peter Fredrick all have direct
carbon processes of their own but are they Fresson ? we may never know
the answer to that one.The books i can recommend are as follows Jose
Ortiz Echague published by Gordon Fraser in 1979 ISBN 0-86092-016-X
and 24 still lives by John Stewart that was published to coincide with
his exhibition called Charcoal Prints at the Portfolio Gallery London
