2. Peter Charles Fredrick - at one time certainly on this list - currently has
an exhibition of his 'Fototempera' and Canon Photorealistic inkjet prints
currently at Lauderdale House, Waterlow Park, Highgate Hill N6 5HG, London,
UK. The show is called 'albumen to adobe'.
I've never seen more than a few of his prints before (we had some of the
'seconds' waved briefly at us in Bath), and this is quite a large and
impressive show (perhaps 80 prints?) which makes clear the control and range
of effects he has achieved with this process. Most of them appear to be 3 or 4
colour prints (often but not always CYMK). Some are relatively natural colour,
while others are very definitely not! Those of you who have met Peter will
find certain aspects of some pictures very much in character; without wanting
to be controversial I'd say they range from those which mirror his warmth of
personality to those which have more to do with his sense of humour and an
overstated kitsch. Both appealed to me, though not equally. He also had his
printing frame on show at the opening, which was pretty well attended I'm
pleased to say. Some of the Canon prints were impressive too - I don't think I
would have suspected some were inkjet. Certainly worth a visit if anyone is
within reach of London - I'm afraid neither the catalogue nor the invitation
tells me when it ends.
Lauderdale House also has an interesting history - one of many places Wesley
preached at among other claims, and Waterlow Park is one of my favourites in
London. There is a certain relevance to Peter's exhibition that I will leave
you to discover in that Karl Marx's tomb is only a few hundred yards away
should you wish to combine a visit! Lauderdale House is 10 minutes walk or 2
minutes on the bus up the hill from Archway tube.
