i too have just returned from England and elsewehere to get on my list
and see the spontaneity of the virgin berth all a-boil again w/our two
dearly beloved sparring part-ners.
I want to reify Dick Sullivan's comments as i too have only met for the
1st time Mr. King (& good harted Mr. Sullivan---and I just turned 58 on
the day of his post)
As far as I can see, no mean spirited comment nor content was Perhaps it
is the way of the 'English' and the 'New Yorker' to act the way they do:
one seems to be assumptive and 'tuther aggressive. Experienceing both in
depth it seems to be their manner and the hostilities which all of us
have experienced are not whimsical at all. In my Californian spirit,
they appear petulant (in the sense of a brash impatience).
I agree with Dick ... I love both these people ... why does the
animosity prevail?
Hey, the Hutu thought the Tutsi were out to get them and went way off
the map w/their fear.
Perhaps that is the governing factor here : fear.
These 2 people are provocative. "Pro" in the term of professing their
interest in their medium and "vocative" in terms of lending their
concise voices to all of our's site.
Suzuki roshi once said that "Life is like getting into a boat that is is
going out to sea and sink"
I say, along w/Msr. Sullivan, Let us not allow this ship to sink.

Ahhh, which metaphorically reminds me of how the Inuit hunt walrus. The
walrus knows when they are hunted. They sit on floes of ice. The Inuit
approach in an umiak (multiple manned canoe w/no covering) and shoot a
walrus. The other walrus dive in and race after the umiak trying to get
under it and rake the bottom w/thir tusks. If they are successful, the
umiak sinks and the arctic water the Inuit almost immediately perish.
However, the Inuit realize this (from experience ...one of my points
here) and when the walrus is under the boat they fire a number of shots
through the floor of the umiak, riddling it with holes and setting it to
start sinking. They have prpared, in advance, pieces of whale blubber
which they immediately plug the holes, saving their lives and giving
them two walrus (if they are lucky)

The moral is lll don't shoot holes in one another's theory, just use
blabber (blathering) to fill the gaps and we will still have our two.

Was that okay?

Cheers to you all and life in general.
