A friend did some tests with a mass-spectromiter (spelling?) and found:

3 separate washings are better than one.
A wash of 20 minutes per wash yields best results.

After one wash 95% of chemicals were removed.
After 2nd wash 95% of the remaining 5% were removed.
After the third wash, 95% of the remaining chemicals were removed.

His results were not published and reflect parts per BILLION (way better
than parts per million!)

One wash of 60 minutes did not fair very well.
