exposure light

Hello all,
I am about to build my light and I am wondering if there is a way to
diffuse the light? I will use type BL blacklights mounted in
a typical light fixture found in commercial buildings. I am concerned
about even exposure. Will a layer of plexi glass work? Is there a
way to acheive a good even exposure without custom building
the fixture.
