Paper Negatives - A Butter Way

Peter Fredricks mentioned using sunflower oil. Way back in the '40s, I used
to make transparent paper negatives from single weight fiber-based paper by
coating the back of the negative with good, old fashioned butter. After a very
light coat was applied, I rubbed it with a cotton rag, until it was dry to the
touch.

After printing, if there is any residual butter on the printing frame glass,
that came off easily with glass cleaner, although I rarely ever had to do
that if I cleaned it well during the rubbing stage.
