digital negatives

Quite interesting, this recent stuff about digital negatives. What keeps
me busy throughout this topic is the eventual quality of the "final"
negatives, separated or not. What size are the negatives most people
use, when they aim for digital negatives, printed out on some Epson
printer? I myself would like to work with 30x40 cm. negatives, but, as I
am still figuring out what printer I should be looking for, I'm curious
as to the output sizes people in the field use?
E.g. Epson has this Epson Stylus Photo, but also Epson printers which
may produce sizes I am looking for (30x40 cm.) Anybody working with
these "bigger" printers as far as digital negatives (separated) are
concerned (also what resolution do they print?)
