A few years ago, I used the metallic gouaches to nice effect. My favorites were
printed from a positive with silver gouache on black paper (for that highlight
shimmer). For a time I was sizing regular gums with a watered-down gesso/acrylic
medium to which I added a bit of pearlescent acrylic matte medium; it gave a
wonderful glow to the highlights. Try it...
