van dyke prints

Am a newcomer to the group here. My interest at this point is completing a
series of Van Dyke prints. Anyone have any suggestions about obtaining
consistent results, at least with respect to tone? Any ideas on how to
obtain the richest darks one can? The pros and cons of selenium or any
other toning? Any references I which are must-sees?
