>>Terry/Pete/Art/Dick: I hope this gets to the alt list and certainly to
Terry. (It is hard for me to tell what happens sometimes to
email/messages/list notes.) Anyway, it sounds like a few of us are anxious
to get some closure on APIS. What a treat Oporto would be, but careful
apis AND individual planning is necessary. I cranked on Carlos a little
bit and have heard nothing back. Jack Fulton in California seems to be his
sponsor for the American interlude that Carlos is taking (Jack is on the
list) so perhaps he can relay some of this to Carlos who seems to have his
modem turned off.<<

I have hesitated to dive into this latest APIS furore as I had hoped that
Carlos would have had it under control by now, but I fear that the point
of no return is almost upon us.
Although I personally have spent and wasted far to many years of my life
on committees, I firmly believe that when a complex international event
such as APIS is organised, one person rarely has enough resources both in
time and/or expertise available to successfully complete this task.

What is needed is a firm positive committee of say five to ten persons
each member accepting responsibility for defined area of activity, ie
travel /hotels
exhibitions, workshops, lectures, social events , and itinerary /programme
stewardship etc..

I would like to make a number of suggestions firstly, I could offer my
services as exhibitions manager. I ran a private gallery in Southend- on-
sea for eight years called Mostly Photographic Ltd , I am a manager of
Focal Point gallery in the central library and also I worked as chairman
of the South East College of Art and Design, exhibitors committee for about
20 years.
Secondly Karl you have made recommendations to head our steering committee,
Terry King with his experience of his New Hands on Workshop establishment
would be ideally suited to this side of the endeavour.
If we think of Oporto in the autumn, which I personally think is an
excellent idea, then of course we would really need Carlos as interrupter
and negotiator
Luis Nadeau who fronted the first phot- alt get together would be a welcome
addition, In this respect I fear that luis never got the true recognition
for his pioneering work in Paris of 1996, the only trouble with Portugal
for luis, it may just a little to near Spain :-) finally who better
for publicity than Dick Sullivan and Sil Horwitz, and I am sure other names
will come up for consideration.

These are some ravings just of the top of my head but what do you think
