A couple generations is probably enough to think of as "archival". A
couple decades definitely is not.

I have worked with negatives - both glass plate and nitrate that were made
in the early part of the 1900s. they were made by a well known Utah
Photographic firm, but stored in poor conditions. You would cringe at the
situation. However, they were processed with care and absolute accuracy by
people who knew what they were doing. Testament to the fact that even in
poor conditions, conventional still wins out.
