I can't think of a reason why ether all by itself would form an
explosive crystalline solid. The vapor, however is potentially
explosive in a confined space and the liquid is very flammable.
This stuff is dangerous enough to demand respect in its handling.
There is also no reason why it would only last three days after opening,
unless of course the cap was left off in which case it would all
evaporate.
