We just went through this same problem flying to England this spring. Our
agent went through consolidators, and the price of $988 came down to $547,
and would have gone down to $450 if we could have been a little more flexible
with our schedule.

Several consolidators (there are hundereds of them) have already purchased
large portions of some flights to Lisbon for that time period, and will be
selling them through travel agents (not air lines) for $600 to $800, depending
on consolidator and your time constraints. Also consider flying to Spain or
Fance, and going by train.

Also check http://www.1800airfare.com They are a consolidator that
advertises nationaly in newspapers. They gave me a good price when I talked to
them (their phone number is also 1-800-airfare), and they do not pressure you.
In this weeks paper, they are showing a $244 fare from Detroit to Paris, round
trip. I don't know what restrictions apply, but you get the idea.
