Never! "Spirits of Wine" is alcohol. There is no way to get sulfuric acid
from wine, nor is any introduced during the making of wine. Sulfites, yes,
but not sulfuric. Pray tell me, Terry, where did you get this
misinformation? I'd like to explore the source.

Incidently, I don't have information on any common commercial source for
sulfuric and nitric acids in small quantities. Anyone have this
information?

It was in a nineteenth century photographic dictionary. I remember thinking
at the time that it was confusing but no stranger than 'spirits of salt' as
a name for HCl. Of course I cannot find it now. Perhaps it just goes to
show that one should not believe everything one reads in books or
dictionaries ! Or that I should have left writing that until the morning.

If I do find the reference I will let you know.

Aldrich sell both sulphuric acid and nitric acid by the litre.
