As you may know I have been organising an exhibition in Bath on
altermnative processes that it is to last from 16 June to 12 July 1998. The
idea is to ship the exhibition to Oporto for APIS 1998.
As I have to make special arrangements for shipping I need to know urgently
if there is likely to be an APIS in Oporto this year and. if so, where the
exhibition will be held and how many pictures can be exhibited.
When we discussed this at APIS in Bath last year you said that there
wouild be lectures and exhibitions and workshops..I was particularly keen
on the idea of the workshops. Do you think enough people are coming to
justify this level of activity. ?
Much as I like the idea of sitting under the trees sipping Port and
discussing alternative photography, I am not sure if I can, given other
pressures, justify my coming if the number coming will mean that that is
all we will do.
I wanted to come to Oporto but if others can not find the time or the money
it is no offence to either yourself or Oporto. Bath had special advantages
as a World Heritage City; its associations with the birth of photography at
nearby Lacock and the magnificent collection of secessionist photography
in the RPS collction and other attractions were enough for APIS to provide
the spark for people to come.
I have had to abandon the idea of the book on last year's APIS as among
other things, there was not sufficient economic justification. Do you
think that this might also be true of APIS Oporto ?
Whatever the position please let us know soon.
