Things are humming right along. Yesterday Bostick and I met with the
authorities at the College of Santa Fe, and we are confirmed to get the 250
seat auditorium on campus for APIS '99. Other break-out rooms and such are
also included in the deal.

We also have 100 beds reserved in the dorm, some are single occupancy rooms
and some double. Costs of rooms will range from $20.00 to $35.00 per night.
The range of costs will include either one, two or three meals in the
student cafeteria. There are some new apartments being built on campus and
a limited number of those may be available.

The campus is about 2 miles from the Santa Fe Plaza and about 2.5 miles
from the museums. Getting the rooms at this cost is a big big plus!
Latecomers and those who wish more luxurious accomodations can of course
obtain rooms in any of the many hotels and motels. Prices there range from
$250.00 per night in the fancy jobs to 39.95 at Motel 6.

The dates for APIS '99 are July 7,8,9,10.

I am assessing costs. The auditorim is costing us but it is reasonable and
we will need audio visual, web-site, and a part-time staff person near the
time of the event. I am thinking that 100-125 will be the registration fee
and we will start signing up people in the Fall. This should give 9 months
lead time which I think is plenty. The dates are hard now, so you can mark
them out on your calendar.

Plans are for registration and then a get together in the auditorium on the
night of July 7 th. I'd like to have a "fun" speaker, someone in the
alt-photo field who is amusing and inspiring???? Any ideas.

I've added the extra day. I've taken a hint from Esther Dyson who puts on
those expensive exclusive computer conferences. She says leave lots of time
for networking. I also need to let people have enough time to shop at the
plaza, it helps to keep our taxes down. (Think I can get Bill gates as a
keynote speaker?.... naw, he couldn't afford the airfare!)

I have some ideas on a keynote speaker that I am working on.

I also plan not just a presentation of work but some folks from allied
fields to talk, such as gallery owners for one, critics for another,
educators on teaching alt-photo. Any ideas along this line are welcome.

more later.
