I thought this might be of interest:
Epson SC 850
The new Epson 850 printers utilize a 14.4KHz frequency and a new waveform
on the piezo printheads to generate a drop size of 11 nanograms on
specially
coated papers and 14 nanograms on plain paper. The 850 will be capable of
1440 dpi resolution on plain paper because of this smaller drop size.
How does this compare to the current epson 800 printers? The current epson
800 printers use a 12KHz frequency to generate drop sizes of 14 nanograms
on
coated paper and 20 nanograms on plain paper.
While the new driver for the 850 appears to work with the current 800, you
might want to be aware that the design changes extend to the driver and
images will appear darker as the 850 driver is set up to plot smaller
droplets.
Epson Stylus Photo 700
The most significant change to the Stylus Photo 700 over its predecessor,
the Stylus Photo, is the improvement in resolution up to 1440 x 720 DPI or
as the press release puts it " no less than 56 dots per millimeter".
Another
change is the improved ink feed system that helps to use as much of the
cartridge ink as possible before signaling to replace the cartridge.
