Peter Howey wrote "My advisor looked at my slide portfolio last week and
said "Pre-Raphaelite".

This reminds me of something in one of Robert Adams' essays (published
as a collection titled "Beauty in Photography") where he compares
specific photographers to specific painters, saying that some
photographers have more in common with certain painters than with other
photographers. I loaned out my copy so can't get you the exact quote,
but this is a fine set of essays if you haven't read. I don't agree with
him on everything (particularly (1) Minor White and (2) Adams' disdain
for 19th century processes), but it's very thought-provoking just the
same.

The other thing I forgot to say was that in addition to the aesthetic
considerations and personal preference, another reason to be leery of
electronic is the archival problem. (Maybe someone else mentioned this
as well.) Even the newer IRIS inks are only said to be good for 25
years, which isn't what I'd consider archival. And of course the life of
your average inkjet print can be measured in days, if exposed to light,
and dyesub is about the same.
