Carl Weese and I have completed the "New Platinum Print."  The galleys went
out
to the "early readers" this morning. I believe this book will set a new
standard for alt-photo books.

We've taken a different direction from most books on alt-photo processes and
platinum in particular:

>From the preface:
"Why this new book? While there are a number of competent publications
on the
subject of platinum printing, none of them give an overview of the range of
expressive effects obtainable from these processes. Most treatments of the
subject take what might be called the Holy Grail approach: they set out a
cookbook recipe to create a particular Ultimate Print. This may be a good way
to obtain the basic skills needed to craft that particular variant of the
process, but it tends to block the printer from learning the true range of
expressive possibilities available."
The publication date is August 15th, which just happens to be the date of the
14th Annual Platypus Party in Santa Fe. The Platypus Party this year will also
be a book signing and a celebration of the launching of Carl Weese and Richard
Sullivan's new publishing house "Working Pictures Press," dedicated to
books on
alt-photo processes.
