Yes I have made a number of CYMK gum prints or to be more precise Gloy gum
prints before moving on to my Temperaprint process. In my experience Mars
black is a good clean working black all the Mars colours are in fact Iron
Oxide derivatives which really do print nicely. I think I have mentioned
before that another approach to the use of black is the painters
complimentary trick. When two colours which are complementary across the
colour wheel, are mixed in equal parts to together they grey or
neutralise each other this effect can be seen with Yellow and Blue /violet
( Mauve ) but any complementary pair will show this effect to a greater or
lessor extent. So if you get a
brown black with the YMC separations instead of using black with the K
separation, you can print a transparent layer of green instead. Phalo green
is a good choice, or you could print a thin layer of yellow followed by
thin layer of cyan, these methods tend to give clean colour and don't incur
the dead effect of black, if used too heavily. However having said this I
have used black on many occasions and find if you print a dark grey rather
than a black there should be few problems.

I am just sharing what I know or what my experience is at current stage. I am
not an expert. I am a beginner, and I have said that several times on the
list. When I post, I don't mean to say that others are wrong or that I know
better than they are. I am just sharing. Lately I have been criticised that I
am claiming expertise, argumentative, etc. etc. so I am gradually fading into
lurk mode. It takes time to type all this in. Why am I doing this? Sharing all
I know just to get criticised?<<

Dave my friend don't let the grouches get to you, there is always someone
moaning about this or that. You are one of the shinning lights of this
list, and a role modal to us all, kind, helpful, cheerful, and honourable.
Over the years you have made a huge personal contribution, this list would
be a poorer place without you. So cheer up mate, and, as we say in the UK.
don't let the bastards grind you down.!

Happy new year and keep those e;mails flowing
