I have received several enquiries in regard to a Holiday workshop I intend
to run at MASiA CAN SERRAT near Barcelona Spain.
>From June 2nd-9th and
entitled ;-

"In the footsteps of Jose Ortiz Echague"

[so here is further info for those who may be interested.]

Introduction,
I have held the work of this talented Spanish photographic artist in high
regard and esteem for a number of years, ,and after visiting Barcelona last
year whilst attending an interesting workshop run by Galina Manikova at
MASiA CAN SERRAT I was inspired to begin planning this enterprise at this
fine Artists Centre.

The creative work will be divided between two main thrusts of photographic
activity.

Firstly the wonderful City of Barcelona is to be visited to obtain
photographs in the Echague pictorialist style, hopefully full of drama,
vigour, and Spanishness.

Secondly these pictures are to be converted into large paper
negatives. These negatives are then sun printed down onto quality
watercolour paper using a light sensitive process of my own invention which
I call Fredricktype it is a pigment process that mimic's the classic
Fresson form of printmaking employed by this great Master.
Finally it is hoped that each participant will return home with a large
Fredricktype Print and detailed working notes of the process.

The Place,
MASiA CAN SERRAT is a large rustic farmhouse full of charm and atmosphere
that has been converted into a multi-arts and crafts
facility including a photographic darkroom. It is situated at the base of a
volcanic mountain called Mon Serrat in a small but beautiful ravine like
valley.

The accommodation is simple no en suite bathrooms etc but the communal
facilities are more than adequate, rather like a student hostel which of
course in fact, it is.

There are no servants to maintain the house, so all guests are expected to
participate in the cleaning of the centre organised by the
live-in-administrator however these duties are far from onerous and help to
create a warm communal atmosphere.
The food system at Cann Serrat is obligatory.Breakfast and lunch
are provided but the guests will be expected to prepare their own meals,
However the Dinner is prepared by a live-in-cook and is served in the
evening. All food is inclusive and is paid as part of the accommodation
costs when the course fees are paid

In the nearby village EL BRUC there are various grocery stores,a
pharmacist, bars, restaurants, and a swimming pool there are also frequent
busses to and from Barcelona. The centre has a self service bar
with,cola,beer,wine,spirits ,cigarettes etc,,,.

Costs
The cost of the course is £260 which includes the following :-
Tuition, accommodation including food, tour guide around Barcelona.
All photographic materials and chemistry to produce one A3 Fredricktype
print, extra materials will probably be supplied at cost if needed.

If this Trip is only seen as a holiday opportunity for instance partners or
friends who wont to come along but do not wish to take part in the
photo/art activity then the cost will be £160.

A full itinerary and relevant information will be forwarded on receipt of a
non returnable booking fee of £60 which will be deducted from the cost of
course fee on arrival at MASiA CAN SERRAT making full participation £200
and holiday opportunity £100.

This course is limited to twelve members so early booking is advisable.
