Golly Keith, you mean that old legend isn't true? But come to think of it
I did a time warp (you know how it is with us young timers) -- it was
Ansel Adams ! Adams's first book appeared in print (at least judging by
dates in my editions) about a year after or maybe even the same time as
Mortensen on the Negative, seemed to set up a similar system, or certainly
related principles.

I did by the way hear AD Coleman talk about the rivalry/feud.... though I
don't know where he got his info ... and now dammit, I'm not sure was it
Weston or Adams... Which was the one hated Hollywood the most? It was
that one...

As far as the crack about the "esthetics"... neither of them grips me,
though Mortensen was less sanctimonious... at least apparently. And sure a
damnsight better writer than Adams, for sure...
