Mercury in its metallic form is less dangerous than if it is an oxide for
example. If you use mercury, wear gloves approved for handling it. but a
mercury cleaner and do not accidentally drop any on the floor. It will be
absolutely impossible to clean it up, and the last thing you need is little
drops of mercury in the environment.

I can appreciate the desire to work with old processes, but it is very
clear to me that there are many materials no one on this list should be
using. Mercury is one of those materials because it is hard to handle and
the potential for problems is certainly there.
