Plexiglas may not be the best material for this project. Plexi is heavy
and brittle, it also can be a royal pain to cut. Cutting it with a
circular saw or a jig saw can cause chipping if too coarse a blade is
used. To complicate it, if the blade gets hot, it gums up. Are we having
fun yet? Try PVC or ABS both are lighter and less brittle. PVC has
better tool working qualities, so you might want to use it for the top,
bottom and sides. Use ABS for the internal support baffles that keep the
top from sagging under a vacuum. PVC can be heat or solvent welded.
ABS can be solvent welded. When you need to join the two materials, use
a two part epoxy. Good luck!
