Not in the assessment so much as you should look toward your coating
technique. It will take a lot of experience to refine a personal
coating technique. And until that technique is refined, it is very
normal to get unexplained inconsistencies. I would suggest practicing
your coating rather than worrying about these "troubles" at this time.
Also keep things simple, but stay away from kits (you want to know what
you've got and what you're doing). Feel free to browse the Guide to

Both sides will print well. The "screen" side will give a bit more
detail and a smother surface after drying. The "nap" side (or "felt"
side) seems smooth out of the package, but after the paper gets wet and
dried, this side has noticeably more texture. Look at the paper with a
strong light at almost 90 degrees to the surface. Note that once you
determine which side is which, all of the paper is packaged with the
same orientation.
