The novel "Yellow Jack" by Josh Russell concerns one Claude Marchand, a
daguerrotypist who is slowly going mad from breathing mercury fumes. The
novel takes place in the 1840s in New Orleans, USA. Being no expert on US
history nor on the technical side of daguerrotypes, I cannot vouch for its
accuracy, however it IS a compelling novel that depicts, against the
backdrop of a very colorful setting, a person in love with his art.
Published by Norton in 1999.
