DEAR LIST,
The following came from a very helpful person named Diana at J.T.
BAKER's Technical Service bureau. It has answered my questions and, I hope,
anyone elses on the topic of species of EDTA.
Thanks to Jeffrey, Sil and all others who have contributed.
CHEERS!

>Hi Bob,
> The full chemical name is ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA),
>the chemical formula is C10H16N2O8. There is no sodium in this molecule.
>The EDTA disodium has a CAS number of 6381-92-6 and our product code is
>8993-01 (this is also a dihydrate, the formula is C10H14N2Na2O8-2H20). The
>EDTA tetrasodium has a CAS number of 10378-23-1 and our product code is
>L693-07 (this too is a dihydrate form, the formula is C10H12N2Na4O8-2H20).
>Dihydrate refers to the 2H2O (two water molecules) associated with each
>molecule. These products are still in solid forms such as crystals or
>powders. I hope this helps.
