Dear list,

I am new to the list so please forgive me if the subject has beeen dealt
with earlier. In dealing with solvents such as acetone and xylene it is
well to note that not only are they toxic they are flammable as well. It is
possible that a spark caused (say) by electrical contacts could
ingnite the vapours if an excessive amount of solvent is applied to the
paper or spilt in the vicinity. It would be prudent take care and to work
in a well ventilated area. Oil of wintergreen (methyl salicylate) is less
volatile and therefore less of a fire hazard than the other solvents
mentioned. However some people find the pungent smell objectionable.
