Re: ballasts
If you're in the U.S., Home Depot, and I'm sure other places, sell
under-the-counter florescent bulb fixtures. Just wire them up per the
instructions and attach them underneath the top of your light box. Possibly
there's a better way I don't know about but these fixtures, which cost very
little, have worked fine.
