Re: Epson or HP for alt-phot ... ?

Phillipe:

I am on my third Epson with the 1440 dpi head, and doubt that head life is
much of a concern. There will be many on this list with more experience
than I, but in my experience the Epson is pretty much the only choice when
it comes to image quality. I would not get my hopes up too much about
archival inks. So far I have tried the MIS quad b&w inks and the
Generations inkset and papers, and I at least can not get image quality up
to the standards of Epson OEM inks. I am interested in trying higher
resolution paper negatives (Epson glossy film) to use for silver prints, but
that has not come to the top of the list yet. Incidentally, if you do not
have it I suggest obtaining Dan Burkholder's book on making digital
negatives. I have bought a number of books on Photoshop and digital
printing, which has a learning curve about as steep as they get, but this
book helped the most. Good luck.
