Sil, Thanks for the advice, but one small question... Alkalis are (were!) used in pretty weak solution for accelerating washing - 1 or 2 percent, n'est ce pas? Yet a thiourea sepia toner may contain up to about 2% sodium hydroxide; is it therefore harming the paper/gelatin at the same time it is protecting the silver? Liam
