RE: Tricolor gum print ( was Gum vs. Kallitype)
Judy,
I use Daniel Smith's ivory black. It clears fine, but one problem I have
with ALL of the ivory black I've got from him is that it has a "lumpy"
consistency - it needs PLENTY of mixing to get an even solution.
While we're on the subject: the other day you mentioned using Sumi ink. I
couldn't find the green bottle, so I got what I could, but haven't tried it
yet. Two questions for you:
1. Why the green bottle? What kind of problems should I expect if I can't
find it?
2. What should I use as a start. i.e., if I use "x" amount of ivory black,
what amount of sumi ink?
Thanks,
Keith

Yes, thanks Andre -- I meant tricolor as in CMY or RGB... but anyway the
fella is putting us on -- he names 4 colors. That's quadricolor !
Some printers do RGB with other than the classic thalo, quinacridone &
yellow paints... & I have some thoughts about that, tho at present I find
the differences of order, strength, repeats and brushing out of areas more
than enough & just pray for control (or let's call it gifts)... Sometimes
I do add an area of actual earth color, but that's supposed to be a
refinement.
This incidentally is at present all from one monochrome neg -- "fake"
tricolor.
PS. to Keith: what brand ivory black are you using? I'm still trying to
find one will work for me...
