As promised I'm getting back to Linda with info. from chemist Bradley J.
Collins, Dept. of Health & Human Services, NIH sent to me March 2, 1999.
Potassium Dichromate (Hexavalent): Reproductive Assessment by Continuous
Breeding When Administered to BALB/c Mice in the Diet (CAS 7778-5--9) Study
Number: RACB94014
"Results of this study show that potassium dichromate is not a reproductive
toxicant at concentrations up to 400ppm. The no-observable-adverse-effect
level (NOAEL) was not established in this study as the 100ppmFl females
displayed reduced MCV (? svk). A maximum tolerated dose (MTD) was reached
for the 400 ppm FO and F1 animals based on slightly decreased body weights,
increased feed consumption, and small decreases in MCV, MCH, and HGB (F1
animals only)."
There are two other reports: Study Number: RACVB95001 NTIS #PB97-12355 and
RACB95002 NTIS #PB97-125363.
All this is over my head and I could not find the reports on the website
listed: http://157.9813.224/htdocs/RT-studies/RAC9401.htm etc. Looks as if
one has to pay for the info. but my general impression is that rats can
tolerate more than a molecule of chromium in their bodies without adverse
effects.
