I sympathise, but wouldn't adding silver nitrate to dichromate solutions
precipitate insoluble red silver chromate? Possibly expensive; possibly
killing two birds with one stone?
Confirmation by chemists required, of course, but in the test tube it
certainly threw down a copious red precipitate. (However, the liquid above
it still appears yellow.)
