There is an excellent list called epson-inkjet, at http://www.leben.com
where your questions about epson printers could be or have been answered
by people who work with these machines all the time.
There are many variables on which printers vary. Some printers are
intended for pre-press production work and have a heavier engine for
speed and heavy use, as well as features needed by prepress workers,
such as PostScript, Pantone color matching etc. These machines also cost
more. So it's not just number of colors vs number of nozzles that you're
comparing, you should look at the whole machine and decide whether you
need the prepress features on the prepress machines. The six-color
machines are intended especially for printing photographs; in the
beginning they were far and away the only inkjet printers for
photographic-quality output, but obviously that's changed in the last
few years.
My advice to you, other than to ask your question in a place it has a
greater chance of getting a knowledgeable answer, is to get spec sheets
for all the printers you are thinking about, then go to your computer
store and print an image (preferably the same image) from each of the
printers. The proof is in the output. Good luck,
