I also have an old (1957) 500C, still in daily use, with two 1957 backs. I
like it better than the 500 CM that I bought as a back-up camera, since many
of the 500C parts are not made anymore. The repair people cannot feel or see
any difference in performance, but I can feel something. The old one is just
smoother.
My lenses are all late 50's and 60's versions, but I've had a couple of award
winning photos (black and white) that some people couldn't believe were not
large format. On a trip, I like the Hassy's for overall use, although I do
have a bunch of Nikon equipment. My 4x5 and 8x10 equipment get less and less
usage, as I get older, and prefer taking the Hassy with me on trips.
Had a chance to "upgrade" to an RZ67, but I personally like the challenge of
the square format.
I, too, do not understand why they had to make some of the changes that were
made.
