Hello,

I know Rene ... he told me some of his tricks.
Contacting gives me problems with big dark dots ... I think it is caused by
newton rings.
I also made some dags straight in the camera ... it was fun.

Someone told me to try to copy big 11x14 BL/W prints ... this is what I will
do in my studio in the next future.

Are you making dags yourself ?

See you,

Marc (Belgium)

  Hello Marc,

I'm curious if you are fabricating your own plates the way Rene Smets does
?
If not, is there a commercial supplier of plates there in Belgium that you
purchase from ?

Good luck with your Daguerreotype "printing" ; it's really a simple matter
and works
quite well whether you contact or project the positive. Notice that your
images will have a
"printed" look compared to the more dimensional feel of an in-camera Dag.
Most modern Daguerreotypes do not have this quality anyway; but take a
look at a good Daguerreotype
made during the '40's and '50's and you'll see what I'm describing.

  all the best,

  Phillip
