Can't concur with either curtailing the thread or moving it off-list.  I for
one don't find it to be off topic and more so, as a non participant, I
developed the following perception of this thread.

It seems that those who have been willing to involve themselves in this one
are the same, steadfast, well read, professorials, outspoken (read that
willing to go out on a limb - no insult here) types.  The thread serves as a
classroom with multiple professors none of whom hold the correct/absolute
point of view.  The students in this class are the real beneficiaries.

I for one am enjoying this one.
