The original Sterry method used dichromate bleach. While Kachel says it will
work (along with about 10 other compounds), he advises against it for
contrast manipulation as it reduces emulsion speed radically. Pot ferri
works so well I have not been tempted to go there.
SLIMT for print contrast management is, once you get used to what you're
doing conceptually, a really easy process and very predictable in terms of
result. It's quick, intuitive, and can be easily tuned to the negative right
in the darkroom as you work. That sort of thing suits me.
