I tend to think for most people, you are correct. Eyeballing it is never perfect and can mislead. However, those few who spend every waking hour of the day in a lab tend to develop a feel for the materials and how best to use them. I used R-1 when I needed to and never had many problems with getting the results I needed. Experience does count. B.
