digital aguatint screens stocastic screens

Hello!

I want to make an aquatint/stocastic screen for solarplate/photogravure. After what i have learned these last couple of days, this seems something that would be easy using photoshop and outputing to a linotronic on film.

So, Any advice from digital negative makers on how to create such a screen in photoshop?

My guess is you would start with a solid grey. (What percent I don't know), then convert to bitmap (output resolution???) as diffusion dither? Or is there a better choice.

This would yeald a black negative with white random dots. I read somehere that 30-40 micron dots were good for this process. i'm not sure how to convert this info into a film resolution?

The output will not cost much compared with what I've seen for ready made aquatint screens.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks

Mac
