I use chrome alum at about 2g per 1000ml of gelatin solution.
However, I first mix the 2g of chrome alum in about 100-150ml of warm
water, then add it to the gelatin solution. Perhaps one could add the
chrome alum directly to the gelatin solution but somewhere back in
pre-historic times I adopted the method described above and have
stuck with it.
