I am forced to reveal that here in the US most don't know either. At
beginning of every semester I would ask the class about ounces, pints &
quarts, hardly anybody knew. Of course they didn't know metric either, but
that was easier to learn.
And in case I haven't mentioned it lately, the United States Post Office
has no knowledge, experience, recognition, or reference to metric
(officially introduced 20 years ago) in its physical plant (scales &
computers exist in ounces & lbs only) or in its rate sheets.
However, please be advised -- INCHES are more convenient for many
functions than centimeters. Really.
