Hi:

I have been looking for an alternative "cheap ortho film" to Freestyle's
Arista APH film. I think I've found some -its Kodak Camera 2000 film CGP

see: http://www.kpgraphics.com/USC/products/film/conv/index.html

Kodak Camera 2000 film CGP should be available worldwide. See
http://www.kpgraphics.com/products/index.html

The problem I have with Arista APH is that it is just too
expensive to import it into Canada. With the US$100.00 minimun order,
exchange on Canada's humble dollar (usually worth between 60 and 65 cents
US), brokerage fees, shipping costs, duty etc. it would cost at least
$250.00 to get some of this film to Canada. I've had generous offers from
US residents to receive, re-package and mail it to me - but I don't see
this as an effective long term solution.

I called around locally to see what kind of orhto film I could get.
Getting Kodalith from a photo shop is really expensive and limited to
8x10. I called a printing supply company and learned they had "Kodak
Camera 2000 film CGP" available in a number of sizes at very good prices.

I did not know if this film could be used to create continuous tone
negatives like Arista APH. I contacted kpgraphics tech support. They
were kind enough to send me a sample.

I tried making interpositves with this film. I had great success. I
first tried using dilute dektol at 1:9 - this produces a somewhat
contrasty continuous tone positive.

I then used Dave Soemarko's LC-1 :
http://members.aol.com/fotodave/Articles/LC-1.html at his recommened
dilution and development time. It produced a gorgeous interpositive. A
low contrast continuous tone image that held all the detail of the
original negative.

The speed of the film is about a stop and a half slower than when used
with Dektol.

The local print supply shop is offering a 100 sheet pack of 17" x 24"
film for ~$100.00 Canadian. We're going to go buy some.

I have this urge to make some big cyanotypes :)

Gord
