Since I make collodion negatives I should point out that re wetting
collodion sometimes causes it to lift off glass. There were ways of subbing
glass, albumen, so this tendency was lessened. I do not think this was
practiced much and I do not know how to tell subbed from un-subbed glass
with a layer of collodion on it. Sometime Collodion images / negatives were
covered with a varnish that was alcohol soluble. Of course Collodion itself
is dissolved in ether and alcohol mixture. There are many modern chemicals
that will dissolve it, just check the contents of a nitrocellulose lacquer
can!
