A)
Cleaning and maintenance of Pt/Pd coating brushes:
After each coating place brush in tray of distilled water (only brush
part, not handle or ferrule).
Before next coating squeegee dry between a clean paper towel (lint free
like the Bounty brand).
After use for the session, rinse the brush in distilled water and
squeegee dry between a clean paper towel (lint free like the Bounty
brand).
Place the brush into a clean light tight bag for storage.
This should really be all that is necessary. I have had brushes last
years and decades with this simple maintenance.
B)
On rare occasion, when it might become needed:
Soak the brush in the same clearing baths used for prints.
Then soak in distilled water (with Baking Soda if acid clearing baths
are used).
Rinse very well with distilled water.
C)
If brush is really bad or suspected of causing contamination, throw it
out and replace it.
It is recommended to do the set A every time the brush is used and only
do set B if absolutely necessary (really consider C). It could be just
as bad to have a brush with traces of clearing agents as a brush with
converted coating material.
