I regret that I've no specific remedy to offer - however, I too have had
sessions when Berg performs as expected, and others when I've gotten only
funky, and largely uninteresting, results like you mention.

One thing I can offer is that fiber based papers do tend to stain with Berg
toners. These toners are so aggressive that there may be an argument for
the use of RC papers instead - even though I've had superb results on fiber.

In the end, all I can say is that it might be the prints, it might that
particular batch of Berg toner, or it might be something more mercurial,
like you're not holding your mouth right....

What I've done when this happens is to come back to that toner again after a
fashion, and with new batch of prints. And don't forget to hold your mouth
right!
