Photography and Culture Within the Western Hemisphere
Photographic images are among the primary common denominators that serve as
linkages between cultures around the world. Since its inception,
photography has served as an educational and informational tool,
documenting humanity’s highs and lows as well as serving as a multifaceted
venue for creative expression.
Photographic expression encompasses the total experience of global village
as its theme. The camera has been present throughout Mexico, Latin, and
Central America, the Caribbean and the United States since the mid 1800’s.
The dilution, melding, and preservation of multiple cultures within the
hemisphere has told its story on film. This conference offers a unique
setting within which to present and discuss this tradition of image making.
Please send a typed abstract of 250 words. Give the name and academic title
of each presenter and give the name and complete address of the main
presenter. Include the telephone number, fax number, and e-mail address of
the main author. Must indicate all AV and space requirements; performances
